Flying is the fastest way to travel from Bali to Lombok: Wings Air’s published examples take about 45–50 minutes between Denpasar (DPS) and Lombok International Airport (LOP). Fast boats suit Senggigi and northern Lombok, with selected Padang Bai crossings taking roughly 1¼–2½ hours; longer island-stop itineraries take more time. The public vehicle ferry between Padang Bai and Lembar is the budget option, allowing around 4–6 hours at sea plus boarding and unloading, and is the choice for bringing a scooter or car.

Public ferry Padang Bai to Lembar
The public roll-on/roll-off ferry connects Padang Bai in eastern Bali with Lembar in southwest Lombok. It carries vehicles as well as foot passengers. Lembar is a mainland arrival port, not Bangsal and not the Gili Islands.
ASDP describes a 24-hour port service on this route, including overnight departures. Allow about 4–6 hours for the crossing and extra time for loading, berth availability and unloading; BMKG’s route forecast uses a six-hour sailing model. A port-entry slot is not a promise of an immediate departure.
The provincial transport authority’s published integrated tariff lists an adult foot passenger at IDR 65,300, a class II motorcycle below 500 cc at IDR 169,400, and a class IV passenger car at IDR 1,184,100 (about US$65). Select the correct vehicle class and confirm the payable total in Ferizy before booking.
Reserve through trip.ferizy.com, choosing the ports, regular service, entry date, passenger or vehicle category and passenger details. ASDP includes Padangbai and Lembar in its online-ticketing network; do not rely on arriving at a cash counter without an e-ticket. Save the QR code offline and carry the identification used for the manifest.
For Padang Bai transfers, BlueWater’s October 27 operator price list quotes private cars for up to four people at IDR 500,000 from central Ubud, IDR 555,000 from the airport and IDR 570,000 from Seminyak—roughly US$28, US$31 and US$31. These are booking examples, not fixed Grab fares or automatic inclusions with an ASDP ticket.
BlueWater describes an early central-Bali–Padang Bai transfer as around an hour after the final pickup; actual hotel departure time depends on traffic and the collection route. Arrange an address-specific pickup from Ubud, Seminyak or the airport, with a buffer before the port-entry window. Travelling to the correct public-ferry terminal matters: a nearby fast-boat office is not the vehicle-ferry boarding gate.
Fast boats from Bali to Lombok: Bangsal, Senggigi and Gili Gede
For a mainland stay, choose the arrival port before comparing prices. Senggigi is useful for west-coast hotels; Bangsal serves the northwest. Gili Gede is an offshore island near southwest Lombok, so it still needs a separate mainland connection if the hotel is on Lombok itself.
The following examples are from operator timetables. All times are local WITA, the same in Bali and Lombok. Confirm the selected sailing, luggage and pickup when booking.
| Operator | Bali departure → Lombok arrival | Scheduled duration | Fare example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ekajaya | Padang Bai 12:30 → Senggigi 13:45 | 1h15 | Check the current price |
| Ekajaya | Padang Bai 09:00 → Bangsal 11:30 | 2h30 | Check the current price |
| BlueWater Express, November–April | Padang Bai 10:15 → Bangsal 12:45 | 2h30, including island calls | Varies by date |
| BlueWater Express, November–April | Serangan 09:00 → Bangsal 12:45 | 3h45 | Varies by date |
| Gili Getaway | Serangan 08:00 → Senggigi 11:00 / Bangsal 12:30 | 3h / 4h30 | From IDR 700,000, about US$39 |
Ekajaya’s schedule and BlueWater’s seasonal timetable show why a generic “Bali–Lombok” duration can mislead. Intermediate island stops make some routes substantially longer than a direct-looking map suggests.
Gili Getaway also lists Serangan 08:00 → Gili Gede 10:15, from IDR 960,000 (about US$53). Use that arrival for a Gili Gede stay or a specifically arranged onward connection, rather than assuming it delivers passengers to Lembar.
Hotel collection is not automatically free. Gili Getaway offers private-car add-ons, while BlueWater publishes separate transfer rates. Serangan generally works better from southern Bali; Padang Bai is useful from central or eastern Bali. If the itinerary continues offshore, the Bali to Gili Islands guide covers island-specific boats and connections.

Flights from Bali to Lombok (DPS–LOP)
The flight connects Ngurah Rai Airport, Denpasar (DPS), with Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya. It is particularly convenient for Kuta Lombok and Mandalika, since the airport is in south-central Lombok rather than at the northern boat ports.
TransNusa and Wings Air confirm the route in their own network information. TransNusa’s current network announcement includes Lombok from Bali. Lion Group’s published Wings Air frequency addition, effective September 28, lists DPS 17:05 → LOP 17:55 on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is one confirmed service example, not the complete daily flight list.
Airfare varies by date and fare bundle. Compare the total with checked luggage and transport at both ends, rather than treating the short flight as a hotel-to-hotel travel time. Check the current timetable for every travel date.
Wings Air’s ATR cabin allowance is 7 kg, with a cabin-bag size limit of 35 × 30 × 20 cm; its published basic allowance has no free checked baggage on this route. TransNusa lists 7 kg combined cabin baggage and dimensions up to 56 × 36 × 23 cm, with checked allowance depending on route and aircraft. Read the allowance on the selected ticket, especially with surfboards or a large suitcase.
Lombok to Bali: ferry, fast boat and flight times for the return
The public ferry runs in reverse from Lembar to Padang Bai, including night services under the route’s 24-hour operation. Select Lembar as the origin in Ferizy and use the entry window issued for that direction.
Fast-boat return times differ from outward departures:
- Ekajaya: Senggigi 10:45 → Padang Bai 12:00 is a published example; Bangsal 11:40 → Padang Bai 13:00 is another.
- BlueWater, November–April: Bangsal 13:00 → Padang Bai 14:40 → Serangan 15:55.
- Gili Getaway: Bangsal 12:30 or Senggigi 13:15 → Serangan 16:15; fares start at IDR 700,000 for either mainland departure.
For flying back, Lion Group’s same Wings Air addition lists LOP 15:50 → DPS 16:35 on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Other departures depend on the date. These times show the reverse service separately; they are not copied from the Bali departure.

Return to Bali the day before an important international flight when using a boat. Weather delays, unloading and road traffic can all break a tight connection.
For arrival back in Bali, the foreign-tourist levy is IDR 150,000 (about US$8.30), paid through Love Bali. Indonesia’s tourism authority describes it as a one-time payment during the stay before leaving Indonesia: retain an existing payment voucher for a Bali–Lombok–Bali itinerary. This is separate from the transport ticket.
Which option to choose
- Kuta Lombok or Mandalika: fly for a short final road transfer. The public ferry to Lembar is the lower-fare alternative if time is flexible.
- Senggigi: compare a boat arriving in Senggigi with flying plus a road transfer. A cheap Bangsal ticket may add unnecessary driving.
- Mataram or northern Lombok: price the full journey from Lembar, the airport or Bangsal; Bangsal is convenient for the northwest, not automatically for the capital.
- Bringing a scooter or car: choose the public vehicle ferry, after obtaining the rental company’s written permission and checking documents and insurance.
Include both land transfers when calculating how much a trip to Indonesia costs. A low ferry fare can lose its advantage for a solo traveller paying for two private cars.
Getting from the port or airport to Kuta Lombok, Senggigi and Mataram
These are named operators’ one-way examples, not universal taxi or Grab tariffs. Private-car prices are per vehicle; the DAMRI prices are per passenger.
| Transfer | Time example | Published price |
|---|---|---|
| LOP → Kuta Lombok, Lombok Transfer | About 30 minutes | IDR 250,000 per car, about US$14 |
| LOP → Mataram, Lombok Transfer | About 30 minutes | IDR 200,000 per car, about US$11 |
| LOP → Senggigi, Lombok Transfer | About 50 minutes | IDR 350,000 per car, about US$19 |
| LOP ↔ Bangsal, Gili Getaway | About 1h45 | IDR 500,000 per car, about US$28 |
| LOP → Mataram / Senggigi, DAMRI | Ask the airport counter for the departure and journey | Airport website lists IDR 25,000 / 35,000, about US$1.40 / 1.90 |
| Lembar → Mataram / Senggigi / Kuta, Lombok Tour Organizer standard car | Hotel-specific; allow about 2–3 hours toward Mandalika | US$15 / 20 / 25, approximately IDR 272,000 / 363,000 / 453,000 |
Lombok Transfer quotes its airport examples for a standard sedan/MPV carrying one to four passengers. Gili Getaway’s private-car list provides the Bangsal connection; Lombok Tour Organizer lists the Lembar examples with driver, fuel and parking included.
The airport’s DAMRI page lists service from 07:00 to 17:00 and directs passengers to the counter. Confirm the current counter fare and final stop, particularly for a late landing. Compare app availability and the permitted pickup point on arrival rather than relying on a pre-set Grab quote.
At a port, agree the car price and destination before accepting a ride, and check whether a porter is offering a separate paid service. Save the hotel’s map pin and driver contact offline. Bangsal to Kuta is a long cross-island transfer; moving hotels from north to south can consume a meaningful part of the day.
Weather, cancellations and seasickness
The Lombok Strait is open water. BlueWater identifies July–September as a period when large southern-ocean swells can affect crossings, including July and August, and notes that earlier journeys generally have better conditions without guaranteeing calm seas. Rainy-season storms can also interrupt boats.
Check BMKG’s Lombok Strait forecast and the operator’s sailing notice before leaving the hotel. Public ferries can also be suspended: ASDP has documented weather-related closure of Lembar–Padangbai. A larger vessel or a night departure does not override a port closure.
For seasickness, choose an earlier sailing when practical, keep a view of the horizon and ask a pharmacist about a suitable remedy before boarding. Keep electronics in a waterproof bag and follow the crew’s seating instructions. The is Bali safe guide covers broader transport precautions around the Bali part of the trip.

Where to stay on Lombok
Kuta Lombok is the practical southern base for Mandalika and nearby beach trips, with easy access from the airport. Senggigi suits a west-coast stay and can simplify arrival by a boat serving its own pier. Check the hotel address carefully: Kuta Lombok and Kuta in Bali are different places.
Choose the base before buying transport. A distant resort may require a longer private transfer even when the ticket says simply “Lombok”.

FAQ
How long is the ferry from Bali to Lombok?
Allow around 4–6 hours at sea on the Padang Bai–Lembar public ferry, plus boarding and unloading. Fast boats can be much quicker, but the operator, Bali departure port and intermediate stops determine the actual duration.
How much does it cost?
The published adult public-ferry tariff is IDR 65,300, about US$3.60, before land transfers. Gili Getaway lists Serangan–Senggigi and Serangan–Bangsal fares from IDR 700,000, while other boat fares and flights depend on the selected departure.
Is it better to fly or take the boat?
Flying usually makes most sense for Kuta Lombok, a short holiday or avoiding the long sea crossing. A fast boat arriving in Senggigi or Bangsal is useful for the west and north; the public ferry suits a flexible budget trip or a vehicle.
Does the public ferry run at night?
ASDP describes 24-hour service between Padang Bai and Lembar, so the route includes overnight travel. Use the entry window on the e-ticket and allow for queues or weather restrictions.
Can I take a scooter from Bali to Lombok?
The public vehicle ferry carries motorcycles; the published class II tariff for a motorcycle below 500 cc is IDR 169,400, about US$9.35. Obtain the owner’s permission, carry the required vehicle and rider documents, and confirm that the rental agreement and insurance cover Lombok.
