The main ways to get to El Nido are to fly into El Nido Airport, fly to Puerto Princesa and continue by road, or take a ferry from Coron. Your best route depends on where you start, your luggage and how much holiday time you can spend travelling.
For travel from Manila, check the airport carefully. The former AirSWIFT nonstop service moved from Manila–NAIA (MNL) to Clark (CRK) on 29 March 2026. Since 1 July, those flights have been operated by Cebgo. Clark requires a separate ground journey from Metro Manila; do not treat it as another NAIA terminal.
Puerto Princesa can be a useful alternative when its flight price and arrival time work better. However, landing there still leaves a long road transfer. If Coron is already on your itinerary, the ferry avoids travelling back through a mainland airport.

Flying to El Nido from the Manila area
Look for Clark (CRK) → El Nido (ENI) in the Cebu Pacific booking system. Old articles and screenshots may still describe a Manila–AirSWIFT flight. The airline’s airport-transfer notice and Cebgo transition notice explain the changes.
For an international arrival into NAIA, compare the complete transfer to Clark with staying at Manila and flying to Puerto Princesa. Include immigration, baggage collection, road traffic and domestic check-in. A short flight duration alone cannot tell you which itinerary is quicker door to door.
Before paying, check the operating airline, airport codes, checked-bag allowance and cancellation rules. Compare the final basket price, particularly if you carry a large suitcase or equipment. Avoid using an old AirSWIFT baggage allowance as a promise for a new booking.
Arrange the transfer from El Nido Airport to your accommodation separately unless it is explicitly included. Give your hotel the flight number and arrival date, and confirm where its driver will meet you. Ask about the actual destination: El Nido town, Corong-Corong and more distant beach properties require different arrangements.

Manila to Puerto Princesa, then onward to El Nido
Choose a flight that leaves room for the transfer
Search for Puerto Princesa Airport using code PPS. Compare the flight arrival against the onward operator’s pickup time before booking either ticket. A lower airfare can lose its advantage if you need an overnight stay or a private vehicle after the shared services finish.
Treat arrival day primarily as a travel day. Keep the first evening flexible and avoid paying for an activity that depends on an exact road arrival. If you land late, staying in Puerto Princesa and leaving the following morning may make the trip easier.
For the wider budget, see how much a trip to the Philippines costs. Include both transport legs, luggage, terminal transfers and the last ride to your hotel.
Shared vans from Puerto Princesa to El Nido
A shared van is a practical way to continue from the airport. Shuttle Palawan publishes PHP 700 per person and a journey of roughly five to six hours. El Nido Paradise gives shared-van examples of PHP 700–800. These are operator examples, not a universal tariff.
Ask whether your booking starts at the airport, a hotel or a terminal. Also confirm whether the stated time is a fixed departure or a pickup window. Give the company your flight number and ask what happens if you are delayed.
Check luggage space before reserving multiple seats. A vehicle’s passenger capacity does not automatically mean it has comfortable space for everyone’s suitcases. Keep documents, valuables and anything needed during the journey in a small bag beside you.
Many services finish at the Corong-Corong transport terminal, with another ride required to your accommodation. Read the drop-off field on your voucher; a ticket labelled “El Nido” is not necessarily a hotel transfer.
Taking the bus
Cherry Bus offers economy and air-conditioned classes, including departures advertised with toilets and reclining seats. Its published timetable lists Puerto Princesa departures at 07:00, 09:00, 11:00 and 21:30. Reconfirm the selected service before travelling.
The operator describes the road journey as around five hours, while 12Go’s individual listings show approximately 5½–7½ hours depending on the service. Use the duration attached to your ticket and allow extra time for stops or delays.
Confirm the exact boarding address with Cherry Bus. Do not tell a driver only “the bus station” or rely on a terminal name copied from an older guide. Airport pickup, terminal departure and hotel collection are different products.
An overnight bus can save daytime travelling, but consider the arrival arrangements. Ask your hotel whether it can receive you early, store luggage or arrange a pickup. A very early arrival does not automatically include early room access.
Private transfers
A private van gives your group control over the pickup and avoids sharing seats with other bookings. Published examples range from a PHP 7,000 promotional town transfer at Shuttle Palawan to PHP 9,000 at El Nido Paradise. Confirm the vehicle capacity and exact hotel destination in the quote.
Divide the total vehicle price by your actual group size, then compare it with shared tickets plus local transfers. Ask about child seats when relevant, luggage capacity, waiting time after a delayed flight and any surcharge for a property outside town.
Coron to El Nido by ferry
Atienza’s published route page lists a daily 07:00 departure from Coron, an 11:00 arrival in El Nido and a PHP 2,600 fare. It asks passengers to reach the port at least two hours before departure. Confirm the timetable, vessel and check-in requirements for your date.
The listed four hours are sailing time. Add the journey to the port, check-in and your hotel transfer after arrival. Ask whether terminal charges and luggage are included in the fare, and use the port shown on the issued ticket.
Keep the travel day flexible: rough seas can delay or cancel sailings. Check the operator’s latest messages before leaving your accommodation. Avoid placing an expensive separate flight immediately after a ferry connection, and understand the refund or rebooking policy before paying.
A multi-day boat expedition between Coron and El Nido is a different purchase. Compare its accommodation, meals and activities separately; it is not an equivalent replacement for a scheduled passenger ferry.
ETDF and practical arrival tips
Budget for the Eco-Tourism Development Fee separately from your transport. The ETDF Management Board’s bulletin gives PHP 400 for visitors from outside Palawan and PHP 200 for visitors within Palawan, with separate student rates and an exemption for bona fide El Nido residents.
Ask the authorised collection point which category applies to you. Arriving on a van from Puerto Princesa should not be treated as proof that you qualify for a lower category. Keep the official receipt and check whether your tour quotation includes the fee. Ask about validity and any separate attraction charges.
Save the hotel’s address, booking voucher and operator contact details offline. Carry enough Philippine pesos for small arrival expenses, and confirm a local transfer price before setting off. Tell the hotel if you expect a late arrival.
If you want mobile data for pickup messages and navigation, compare Airalo vs Holafly. Check phone compatibility and the plan’s Philippine coverage before buying; retain offline copies even when you have mobile data.

Best time to travel to El Nido
The drier months generally offer a better starting point for a beach-and-boat itinerary. Use our best time to visit the Philippines guide for the regional differences, then check the actual forecast and transport notices close to departure.
No month guarantees an uninterrupted ferry crossing. Keep spare time when your itinerary depends on boats, and book popular transport earlier around holidays. Choosing refundable accommodation can be useful when a weather-sensitive connection controls your arrival.
Leaving El Nido: the return trip
The main return choices are a flight from ENI, a road transfer to PPS or a ferry to Coron. Check the return separately rather than reversing the outward timetable. In particular, verify whether an onward international flight uses Clark or Manila.
Cherry Bus lists return departures at 07:00, 09:00, 11:00 and 21:00. Atienza lists El Nido–Coron at 12:30. Both need reconfirmation for your travel date. For a PPS flight, include the road journey, possible delays and airport check-in; consider sleeping in Puerto Princesa beforehand.
Which route should you choose?
- Short holiday: compare a flight into ENI with the entire Manila-to-Clark transfer included.
- Tighter budget: compare PPS airfare plus a shared van or bus, including both local transfers.
- Family or group: compare a private vehicle quote with your total shared-ticket cost.
- Already visiting Coron: check the ferry and leave room for weather disruption.

FAQ
Can you fly directly from Manila to El Nido?
The former AirSWIFT service now uses Clark, not Manila–NAIA. Search the correct airport code and account for the ground transfer from Metro Manila.
Which airport is closest to El Nido?
El Nido Airport (ENI), also known as Lio Airport, serves the El Nido area. Puerto Princesa is an alternative gateway followed by a long road journey.
Is Puerto Princesa to El Nido a short transfer?
No. Allow roughly five to six hours for a van, with additional pickup or waiting time. Bus duration depends on the service and stops.
Is a private van priced per person?
The private examples here are per vehicle; shared-van examples are per passenger. Always verify the quotation, capacity and destination before comparing.
Can I arrive and join an island-hopping tour the same day?
Avoid relying on it. Transport delays and tour meeting times can make the connection impractical. Keeping arrival day flexible is the easier plan.
