The ferry is the most scenic way to travel from Phuket to Krabi in the calmer high season, while a minivan or private taxi is usually the quickest practical option by road. Allow roughly 2.5–3 hours for a direct road transfer, depending on the pickup and destination; the journey is approximately 160–170 km between the main urban areas. A public bus is a budget option, but compare shared vans too: the cheapest ticket changes with the service and booking channel.
Your first decision is where in Krabi you actually want to arrive. Krabi Town, Ao Nang and Railay require different final transfers, and a ticket labelled “Krabi” does not automatically deliver you to the beach. There is no useful direct flight between Phuket and Krabi; connecting flight results are a poor alternative to this short surface journey.

Phuket to Krabi by ferry

Direct ferry to Ao Nang
Ao Nang Princess departs from Rassada Pier and serves Nopparat Thara Pier near Ao Nang. The operator’s current 10:30 service page lists arrival at 12:30, an adult fare of THB 900 and operation on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, with an instruction to recheck.
The separate 13:30–15:15 sailing also costs THB 900. Its page excludes 20 May–14 November 2026, so it should not be assumed available for an October trip. High-season travel is generally more comfortable, but the route is not simply “November to April only”: limited low-season sailings may operate. Check the current timetable and your specific date, especially around seasonal changes.
Pickup is listed as included from Patong, Kata, Karon, Phuket Town, Siray Bay and Chalong. Other areas can cost extra or fall outside coverage; Phuket Airport is excluded. Confirm your hotel’s eligibility and booking cutoff before paying. Our best time to visit Phuket guide helps you plan around the weather.

Ferry via Koh Phi Phi
Choose this route if Phi Phi is part of your holiday, rather than assuming every ferry connection provides useful sightseeing time. Through-tickets can involve changing boats and handling your own luggage; the waiting time matters as much as the crossing.
Ao Nang Travel lists Phuket–Phi Phi at THB 900 and Phi Phi–Ao Nang at THB 650, giving THB 1,550 when purchased as those two legs. Its published examples are 08:30–10:30 and 14:30–16:30. Treat them as timetable examples to reconfirm, not a guaranteed connection on every date. An overnight stop is less rushed than trying to squeeze a visit between departures.
Rassada Pier: how to get there
From Patong or Kata, arrange the ferry company’s included pickup where offered, or book a taxi to Rassada Pier. Phuket Town is closer, but you still need to identify the correct terminal and check-in counter. Confirm the pickup time separately from the sailing time.
Allow a buffer for traffic, ticket checks and loading luggage. The operator asks passengers making their own way to arrive before departure; follow the check-in time on your voucher. Do not book a ferry immediately after a flight arrival without accounting for immigration, baggage collection and the road transfer.
Where the ferry arrives
Ao Nang services use Nopparat Thara Pier, rather than dropping everyone directly at their beach hotel. Check whether onward hotel transport is included. A ticket to Krabi Town may instead arrive at Klong Jilad Pier, also spelled Khlong Jilard, south of town.
These are different arrivals. If your hotel is in Ao Nang, a cheaper Krabi Town ticket may require another paid transfer. Some boats serve Railay, but verify the landing point and luggage arrangements instead of assuming all “Krabi” boats call there.
Phuket to Krabi by bus
Terminal-to-terminal services depart from Phuket Bus Terminal 2, north of Phuket Town, and arrive at Krabi Bus Terminal. The 12Go route page lists approximately three-hour services; its published starting fare is THB 395, while BusX advertises tickets from THB 400. Those are online prices, not a verified official counter tariff.
Check the current timetable at the terminal or with your chosen operator. Listings may call a vehicle a bus, minibus or VIP minibus, so inspect the actual service rather than relying on the category name. Keep a screenshot of the departure station and arrival point.
From Krabi Bus Terminal, continue by a shared songthaew when available or take a taxi. Confirm that a shared vehicle is going to Krabi Town or Ao Nang before boarding, and agree the price. Local fares and waiting times require checking; the intercity ticket normally does not cover your final hotel ride.
Phuket to Krabi by minivan
Minivans are popular because some services reach Ao Nang directly or offer hotel pickup, avoiding a separate terminal transfer. Listed Ao Nang bus and van options are approximately THB 400–600 and three to four hours. Pickup rounds and intermediate stops can make a shared ride slower than a private car.
Read the luggage policy before booking. There is no universal bag allowance across operators: a large suitcase, surfboard or extra bag may need payment or another seat. Confirm whether “hotel transfer” means your exact hotel, an office meeting point or a connecting vehicle.
Keep medication, documents and valuables in a small bag you can reach. Save the operator’s contact details, and arrange a Thailand eSIM if you need data for pickup messages and maps.
Private taxi or transfer from Phuket to Krabi
A private transfer is the straightforward choice for families, groups and bulky bags. Bookaway’s operator examples run from US$72–111 per vehicle, with journey times commonly around three hours. The price depends on the addresses, vehicle size and booking date; ask for a complete quote rather than converting a starting fare into a fixed baht tariff.
Confirm luggage capacity, child seats if needed, tolls, waiting time and the exact drop-off. Dividing a vehicle price among several travellers can make it competitive with shared tickets plus separate taxis. For a rental car, check licence and insurance requirements, parking and permission for a one-way return.
Phuket Airport to Krabi or Ao Nang
A prebooked direct road transfer avoids travelling south into Phuket Town and then back toward the mainland. Allow roughly 2.5–3 hours as a planning estimate, with extra time for baggage collection and traffic. Give the transfer company your flight details and confirm how delayed arrivals are handled.
Shared airport minivan products may also be available, but inspect the pickup point and whether a vehicle change is involved. Check the current timetable; do not treat every Phuket–Ao Nang van as an airport service.
For a cheaper terminal-based bus, first travel from the airport to Phuket Bus Terminal 2, then take the Krabi service and an onward ride if needed. That introduces waiting and extra transfers, so allow more than the terminal-to-terminal bus time. There is no practical nonstop flight to replace this road journey.
Krabi Town, Ao Nang or Railay: where should you go?

Choose Krabi Town for local food, town accommodation and an urban base. Ao Nang is more convenient for a beach stay, restaurants and boat excursions. Read our Phuket vs Krabi comparison if you are still deciding how to split your holiday.
Railay has no road access. Continue by longtail boat from Ao Nang or arrange an appropriate boat connection, checking conditions and the landing beach. Pack so you can move luggage comfortably between boats and shore.
Check hotels in Ao Nang and Krabi, comparing the address with your ticket’s arrival point.
Krabi to Phuket (return trip)
The same road choices work in reverse: terminal buses, shared vans and private transfers. Reconfirm the pickup address, especially if you are staying in Railay and must take a boat before meeting a driver.
Ao Nang Princess publishes a 10:30–12:30 return sailing at THB 900, with the same 20 May–14 November 2026 exclusion. Its 15:00–17:30 service page lists Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at THB 900. Check the current timetable: seasonal pages and general summaries can differ, and a morning departure is not guaranteed in October.
For a flight from Phuket, compare a direct airport transfer with a ferry plus road journey. Leave a substantial connection buffer and avoid relying on a weather-sensitive boat for a tight international departure.
Which option should you choose?
- Budget: compare terminal buses and shared vans, including both final transfers; prepare cash and read about ATM fees in Thailand.
- Comfort: choose a direct hotel transfer with clear pickup and baggage terms.
- Scenery: take the ferry when the sailing operates and sea conditions are suitable.
- Group: divide a private vehicle quote among your passengers and compare the total.
If arriving from the capital, our Bangkok to Phuket guide covers the preceding journey. Build enough time into your Thailand itinerary to enjoy both destinations.
FAQ
How long is the ferry from Phuket to Krabi?
The published direct Ao Nang Princess sailings take about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, excluding transfers. A Phi Phi connection takes longer and depends on the waiting time between boats.
What is the cheapest way to get from Phuket to Krabi?
A terminal bus is a budget choice, but shared vans can be competitive. Compare the fare plus the cost of reaching your hotel rather than assuming the cheapest advertised ticket is the cheapest complete trip.
Is there a direct ferry from Phuket to Ao Nang?
Yes, Ao Nang Princess publishes direct services between Rassada and Nopparat Thara. Operation varies by season and day, so check the current timetable.
How far is Krabi from Phuket?
The main road journey is approximately 160–170 km. Your actual distance depends on whether you start at the airport, Phuket Town or a west-coast beach and finish in Krabi Town or Ao Nang.
Can you do a day trip from Phuket to Krabi?
It is possible, but travelling there and back uses much of the day. A private driver or organised excursion gives more flexibility than trying to fit sightseeing between seasonal ferry departures.
